Freight Costs
Freight costs are the single largest expense of Rotary Aid. A 20 foot container normally costs us about $4500 to send overseas help whilst a 40 foot container costs approximately $7500.
Whilst this may seem like a lot, when you consider that we can put over $150,000 of equipment into a 40 foot container and kit out whole schools or medical centers, the cost of freight provides an excellent return on investment.
Donations
Rotary Aid is always on the lookout for donations to send through to those less fortunate. There are 3 key areas of focus for donations:
Medical Equipment
The need for medical equipment and supplies in developing countries is extensive and we can place most medical items that are donated very easily. From needles, to gowns, to beds, to microscopes, to walkers, to wheelchairs, to x-ray machines we find a home for all of these items very quickly.
Education Equipment
Like medical equipment, educational items are highly sought after in developing nations. Australian Aid has the capability to kit out whole schools with desks, chairs, cupboards, whiteboards, books and computers thanks to the generous recycling donations of schools right across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
Other Services
We work closely with other service organisations such us the Rural Fire Service and Fire Brigade and recycle as much of their old equipment as possible. Recently we have fitted out a fire crew in Papua New Guinea with clothing donated by a local brigade that had upgraded their own equipment to meet Australian standards.
Other Donations
We also accept other donations such as sports clothing, footwear and sport equipment, dental equipment, wheel chairs and musical instruments we can re purpose. We are especially good at finding new homes for branded material that organisations no longer want and would normally destroy. Our overseas recipients can put these items to good use if the branded items are not allowed to be distributed within Australia.
